REYKJAVIK
Reykjavik is the most northerly capital city and the first port of call for most visitors to Iceland. Once you have spent up in the boutiques, taken a sight seeing tour and eaten at one of the town's restaurants you will be ready for the real reason for a visit to Iceland, exploring its natural beauty. The capital is a city of contrast, from the bustling harbour and fishing port with its evocative smells and excellent fish restaurants, to the bustle of the modern shopping centre a short walk away. There are many lovely old buildings to see in Reykjavik including the Parliament house built in 1881. The modern city has great facilities for shopping night life and sports. There are many great heated outdoor swimming pools. Whale watching trips are available from the harbour in season and site seeing trips into the countryside all year round. The famous Blue Lagoon geothermal spa is only 50km from Reykjavik and excursions run 4 times per a day throughout the year.
